Yanzhuang Town, Jinghai District, Tianjin, known as China’s Hometown of Hose Clamps, hosts the country’s largest hose‑clamp industrial cluster. Dating back to the 1990s, the industry has gone through four phases: family‑run workshops, cluster expansion, technological transformation & upgrading, and intelligent manufacturing, building a regional business card of “Small Components, Big‑Scale Industry”.
Phase 1: Initial Germination (1990‑2000) — Started from Workshops with Imitation‑based Production
Kainuo Industrial (formerly Baocheng Hose Clamp Factory, founded in 1989‑1990) stands as one of the earliest hose‑clamp manufacturers in Jinghai and marked the starting point of the local industry.
Production was carried out in township‑based small workshops with simple stamping machines and extensive manual work. Factories mainly imitated standard American‑style and German‑style hose clamps. Outdated equipment and primitive moulds resulted in limited dimensional accuracy.
The market focused on low‑end domestic distribution channels for auto spare parts, agricultural machinery and plumbing hardware. Domestic wholesale dominated business, while export volume remained minimal.
At this stage, manufacturers were few and geographically scattered. A complete upstream‑downstream supply chain had not yet taken shape; raw material processing and surface treatment were mostly outsourced externally.
Phase 2: Cluster Expansion (2000‑2010) — Surging Manufacturers Form Preliminary Industrial Belt
Numerous new factories emerged. Technical talents spinning off from leading enterprises together with local entrepreneurs set up plants one after another. The number of hose‑clamp manufacturers in Yanzhuang grew rapidly from a handful to dozens.
Local supporting facilities gradually came into being, including steel‑strip shearing, stamping, electroplating, packaging and logistics, bringing finer labour division. Special‑purpose subcontractors for raw materials, moulds and surface‑treatment services appeared locally.
Product portfolios expanded to German‑style hose clamps, heavy‑duty clamps, spring hose clamps and more. Local products realised import substitution with prominent cost‑performance advantages.
Domestic market share rose rapidly. Several companies stepped into foreign trade and exported indirectly via third‑party trading corporations.
Drawbacks persisted: most production remained semi‑manual. Product quality was inconsistent, competition centred largely on low pricing, independent R&D stayed weak, and most products were copies of overseas samples.
Phase 3: Transformation & Upgrading (2010‑2020) — Equipment Renewal, Booming Foreign Trade and Standardised Operation
Enterprises phased out old single‑unit punch presses and introduced automatic stamping, automatic welding and thread‑rolling equipment. Many factories upgraded moulds, doubling stamping efficiency and improving product consistency.
Leading manufacturers obtained ISO9001 and IATF16949 automotive‑industry certifications. They were admitted into the supply chains of domestic heavy‑duty trucks and commercial‑vehicle OEMs, shifting from spare‑parts wholesale markets to formal industrial OEM supporting services.
Foreign‑trade business flourished. Leveraging platforms such as Canton Fair and Alibaba International Site, plenty of enterprises began direct export. Products were shipped to Europe, Russia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and South America. Export proportion kept climbing and accounted for over 30 % of total sales.
Supported by local government policy, Yanzhuang Town designated hose‑clamp manufacturing as its pillar industry. Subsidies for technical renovation were rolled out to foster high‑tech enterprises and specialised‑sophisticated‑innovative SMEs. More than 80 manufacturers operated across the town, forming a complete industrial cluster.
Product lines extended beyond ordinary galvanised hose clamps to high‑value‑added items: 304 / 316 stainless‑steel series, T‑bolt heavy‑duty hose clamps, spring clamps and EPDM‑gasket pipe‑clamp assemblies.
Phase 4: Intelligent Manufacturing & High‑Quality Development (2020‑Present) — Hose‑Clamp Town for New‑Quality Productivity
Leading firms independently developed and retrofitted fully‑automatic production lines, implementing information‑driven management for stamping, welding, inspection and warehousing. Single‑line production capacity increased significantly. The aggregate annual output of the whole cluster reaches around 6 billion pieces, with annual industrial output value exceeding 1 billion RMB.
Moving away from simple imitation, local companies independently developed new‑structure clamps and obtained large numbers of invention patents and utility‑model patents. A group of high‑tech enterprises, specialised‑sophisticated‑innovative SMEs and “Little Giant” enterprises have grown up.
Jinghai holds 50 %‑60 % of China’s domestic hose‑clamp market share as the country’s core production base. Its products serve automotive, construction machinery, shipbuilding, high‑speed‑rail, new‑energy, irrigation and pipeline‑engineering sectors, exporting to more than 80 countries and regions worldwide.
Under the “Hose‑Clamp Town / Fastener Town” development blueprint, Yanzhuang encourages differentiated competition. Some factories focus on mass‑produced standard parts, while others specialise in high‑end custom clamps for automotive and new‑energy applications. A sound industrial ecosystem takes shape with leading enterprises driving collaborative development among large, medium‑sized and small manufacturers.
